Foreign investors continued their selling spree in the Taiwan stock market for the eighth consecutive session, offloading shares of TSMC while favoring steel and high-dividend ETFs.
What Happened
Foreign Selling Streak: The Taiwan stock market saw a rebound of 141.39 points today, yet foreign institutional investors continued their exit, marking their eighth consecutive day of net selling. The cumulative net outflow from foreign investors has now surpassed NT$680 billion, highlighting persistent caution regarding the local market's short-term outlook.
Heavyweight Adjustments: Foreign selling was concentrated on major indices and tech giants, with Yuanta Taiwan Top 50 ETF and TSMC seeing the largest outflows at 28,000 and 22,000 shares respectively. Other significant sell-offs included Nanya Plastics, Formosa Plastics, and various semiconductor-related ETFs, reflecting a broader de-risking move by international capital.
Selective Buying: Despite the overall bearish sentiment, some sectors attracted foreign interest, with China Steel Corporation leading the buy list with over 43,000 shares purchased. Other notable inflows were directed toward high-dividend ETFs and AUO, indicating that foreign capital is selectively rotating into specific defensive or value-oriented assets.
Divergent Institutional Moves: Total net selling by the three major institutional groups reached NT$67.8 billion, driven largely by foreign investors and proprietary traders. In contrast, domestic investment trusts have remained net buyers for six consecutive sessions, acting as a critical stabilizing force against the heavy selling pressure from foreign entities.
