President Lai Ching-te announced a record-breaking defense budget for 2027 and pledged to distribute NT$10,000 to every citizen, citing strong economic growth.

Record Defense Spending: President Lai Ching-te announced that the 2027 defense budget will reach NT$1.12 trillion to bolster national sovereignty. The government aims to provide maximum support to the military and accelerate the development of the domestic drone industry.
Economic Prosperity and Payouts: With the economy projected to grow by 11.05% this year, the government plans to reinvest in public infrastructure and local funding. To share the fruits of the AI-driven economic boom, the government intends to distribute a cash dividend of NT$10,000 to every citizen.
Enhanced Social Welfare: A new growth subsidy for children aged 0-18 will launch on January 1, providing NT$5,000 monthly to help families with child-rearing costs. Existing childcare and long-term care programs will also continue to receive robust funding without increasing debt ratios.
Call for National Unity: Lai urged the public to remain united amidst shifting international dynamics and domestic political challenges. He emphasized that social stability is the foundation for continued economic development and improved living standards for all Taiwanese.
