Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs is boosting the semiconductor sector by supporting 84 local firms, aiming for NT$8 trillion in output by 2026.

What Happened

Industry Growth Targets: The Industrial Development Administration (IDA) of Taiwan aims to push the domestic semiconductor industry's output to over NT$8 trillion by 2026. This growth is driven by surging demand for AI and high-performance computing, with the government actively fostering a local ecosystem through innovation and equipment autonomy.

IC Design Advancements: The IDA has approved 55 subsidy projects to support IC design firms in emerging fields like AI, robotics, and satellite communications. Notable successes include new maritime communication chips that significantly outperform traditional standards, highlighting Taiwan's technical prowess.

Equipment Localization: By linking local equipment makers with major firms like TSMC and ASE, the IDA has helped 29 companies validate their products for advanced packaging. Firms such as Junsun and Scientech are now key partners, contributing to a projected NT$270 billion in domestic equipment output by 2026.

Global Strategic Partnerships: To support international expansion, including TSMC's European operations, Taiwan has signed an MOU with Germany's Silicon Saxony. This collaboration aims to deepen supply chain integration and accelerate the development of next-generation packaging technologies.
