Taiwan Container Shipping Giants Report Strong September Revenue Growth
Transportation · Marine Shipping · economic_daily · 2026-10-08
Taiwan's major container shipping lines, Evergreen, Yang Ming, and Wan Hai, reported significant year-on-year revenue growth in September, driven by sustained high freight rates and robust seasonal demand.
What Happened
Strong Revenue Performance: Taiwan's three major container shipping companies, Evergreen, Yang Ming, and Wan Hai, all reported impressive year-on-year revenue growth in September, ranging from 63% to 97%. The combination of sustained high freight rates and peak-season restocking demand helped Wan Hai break the NT$20 billion monthly revenue threshold, highlighting a strong operational momentum.
Market Dynamics: Industry players noted that despite geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, the global economy has shown resilience, with strong Asian exports supporting shipping demand. Furthermore, persistent congestion at major Asian ports has reduced vessel turnaround times, effectively tightening capacity and providing support for freight rates.
Trade and Tariff Outlook: Regarding the US-China trade environment, shipping firms observed that tariff tensions have temporarily eased, helping to reduce market uncertainty and support cargo volumes on US routes. With the conclusion of China's Golden Week holiday, manufacturing and shipping activities are gradually resuming, which is expected to accelerate the release of market demand.
Positive Future Outlook: Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, industry executives anticipate that demand recovery will exceed historical averages. Due to ongoing supply chain uncertainties and port congestion, shippers are increasingly planning ahead, while the traditional peak season for intra-Asia routes is expected to keep overall operational momentum stable.
