Researchers in Kazakhstan have unveiled a drone system that deploys beneficial insects via biodegradable capsules to combat crop pests with high efficiency.

System Innovation: The Zazken Zhiembayev Kazakh Research Institute for Plant Protection and Quarantine has developed 'BioDrop,' a drone-based system designed to release predatory insects. The technology utilizes biodegradable capsules to target and eliminate agricultural pests without harming the environment.
Operational Efficiency: Field tests indicate that BioDrop achieves a biological control efficiency of 81-83%, significantly outperforming manual application methods. Furthermore, the system reduces the time required for treatment to just 10-15 minutes, compared to over an hour for traditional labor-intensive methods.
Current Deployment: The system is currently being utilized at four farms across Kazakhstan as part of the country's broader agricultural modernization efforts. The government is increasingly relying on drone technology, including AI-integrated monitoring, to manage crop health and prevent pest outbreaks like locusts.
