European Bond Yields Hit Multi-Year Highs as ECB Signals Further Tightening

European government bond yields have surged to multi-year highs amid a global sell-off, fueling expectations that the ECB will resume interest rate hikes.
What Happened
Surging Bond Yields: European government bonds are facing a severe sell-off, with German 10-year yields reaching 3.3123%, the highest level since May 2011. French 10-year yields have also climbed to 4.163%, marking their highest point since November 2008 as market volatility intensifies.
Tightening Pressures: The sell-off is driven by a combination of heavy government spending in Germany and hawkish signals from the U.S. Federal Reserve. France is particularly vulnerable, facing a widening yield spread against German bonds due to persistent fiscal concerns and upcoming political uncertainty.
ECB Policy Outlook: Financial markets have already priced in a potential interest rate hike by the European Central Bank at its upcoming meeting. Analysts expect the ECB to raise its deposit rate from the current 2.25% to 2.70% by the end of the year to combat rising price levels.
Inflationary Concerns: Inflation in the Eurozone is accelerating, largely due to the impact of the Iran conflict on global oil prices. With Germany's August consumer price index rising to 2.9%, the ECB is under mounting pressure to maintain a restrictive monetary policy to curb inflationary trends.
