大學光 (大學光) plans to open a wholly foreign-owned eye hospital in Suzhou by 2027, while seeing a rebound in its core Taiwan operations.
What Happened
Expansion Strategy: General Manager Lu Cheng-hung announced that the company has secured qualifications to establish a wholly foreign-owned hospital in China. A new 3,200-square-meter eye hospital in Suzhou is slated for completion in Q1 2027, serving as a strategic hub for the East China market.
Operational Recovery: While new hospital construction has weighed on current profits in China, existing operations are trending toward break-even. The company has also increased its stake in Zhejiang Taixue to 100%, ensuring full consolidation of future Chinese earnings.
Taiwan Core Business: The company's domestic eye care business is showing signs of recovery. After a 10-15% decline in surgical volume in the first half, growth turned positive in June, with management expecting a strong performance during the traditional peak season in the second half.
Future Outlook: Management is optimistic about the company's trajectory through 2025, driven by the new hospital project and stabilized domestic growth. By leveraging its Taiwan experience to differentiate from local insurance-based providers, the company aims to enhance its long-term profitability.
