China Steel Corporation reported a July pre-tax profit of NT$655 million, marking a monthly decline but a turnaround from last year's losses.
What Happened
July Performance: China Steel Corporation (CSC) reported a consolidated pre-tax profit of NT$655 million for July, representing a 55% decline from June. Despite the monthly drop caused by lower unit margins in steel sales, the company successfully turned a profit compared to the NT$840 million loss recorded in the same period last year.
Profitability Breakdown: Consolidated revenue for July reached NT$29.72 billion, a 6% increase from the previous month. However, operating profit fell 84% to NT$241 million, though increased dividend income helped bolster the overall pre-tax bottom line.
Year-to-Date Results: For the first seven months of the year, CSC accumulated a pre-tax profit of NT$2.994 billion, a significant recovery from the NT$2.407 billion loss during the same period in 2023. Higher sales volumes drove operating profit growth, although lower interest and dividend income impacted non-operating results.
Market Outlook: Internationally, steel prices in the US and Europe remain high due to trade barriers, while Asian markets show signs of bottoming out as Chinese producers cut output. Domestically, the gradual depletion of downstream inventory is expected to provide positive momentum for the steel market moving forward.
