Bicycle giant Giant Manufacturing announced a strategic move to buy back a 36% stake in its subsidiary Dingmei, raising its total ownership to 96.63%.
What Happened
Strategic Stake Acquisition: Giant Manufacturing has announced plans to acquire a 36% stake in Dingmei from its second-largest shareholder, Zhongyu, for approximately NT$2.83 billion. This transaction will increase Giant's total ownership of Dingmei to 96.63%.
Operational Realignment: Following the unsuccessful IPO attempt of Dingmei in mainland China, Giant decided to consolidate its ownership. The company stated that Dingmei, which focuses on alloy materials, contributes 7-8% to Giant's consolidated revenue, and the move aims to streamline management and focus on core business growth.
Strong Financial Recovery: Giant reported a robust second quarter in 2026, with revenue reaching NT$16.67 billion, a 5.8% year-over-year increase. Net profit surged 2.34 times to NT$630 million, reflecting a successful return to growth for the bicycle manufacturer.
Market Positioning: This acquisition highlights Giant's proactive approach to managing its global subsidiaries amid regulatory challenges. By tightening control over its supply chain and optimizing capital allocation, the company aims to strengthen its competitive edge in the global market.
