Samsung Securities Approved as 8th Issuer of Promissory Notes

Finance · Investment Banks/Brokers · yonhap_finance · 2026-09-09

The Financial Services Commission has officially approved Samsung Securities to enter the promissory note business, making it the eighth firm to do so.

What Happened

Regulatory Approval: The Financial Services Commission (FSC) has officially approved Samsung Securities' application for the short-term financing business, specifically for issuing promissory notes. This makes Samsung Securities the eighth brokerage firm in Korea to hold this license.

Business Scope: Promissory notes are financial products issued by brokerage firms with equity capital over 4 trillion KRW, based on their own credit. Samsung Securities is now authorized to issue these notes up to 200% of its equity capital.

Background: Samsung Securities had been seeking this license since being designated as a comprehensive financial investment business entity in 2017. While the review process was previously halted due to regulatory sanctions, the path cleared once those issues were resolved.

Strategic Impact: Financial authorities expect that this authorization will enable Samsung Securities to better meet diverse corporate funding needs, including the supply of venture capital.
