Anthropic Secures $45 Billion Data Center Lease to Boost AI Capacity

Technology Services · Internet Software/Services · yonhap_finance · 2026-08-27

Anthropic has signed a $45 billion, six-year deal to lease a data center from EnScale, aiming to scale its AI infrastructure and computing power.

What Happened

Data Center Acquisition: Anthropic has entered into a $45 billion, six-year agreement to lease a data center in West Virginia to meet the surging demand for its AI models. The facility, owned by the British cloud firm EnScale, will be equipped with Nvidia’s next-generation 'Vera Rubin' platform.

Expanded Computing Power: Once the facility becomes operational late next year, Anthropic will gain access to 460MW of computing capacity. This move is a critical component of the company's broader strategy to secure the necessary infrastructure to support its rapidly growing AI operations.

Strategic Infrastructure Moves: The company has been aggressively expanding its computing footprint through various partnerships, including deals with Amazon and SpaceX, and ongoing discussions with Meta. Additionally, Anthropic has secured a long-term contract to lease data centers powered by Google’s proprietary AI chips.

EnScale's Market Position: The data center provider, EnScale, is reportedly preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) as early as next month. The company, which recently raised $2 billion in funding, boasts a high-profile board including former UK Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and former Meta executive Sheryl Sandberg.
