Taiwan stocks surged 939 points to reclaim the 47,000 level, fueled by strong US market performance and the start of year-end institutional window dressing.
What Happened
Market Rebound: Taiwan stocks staged a robust recovery, jumping 939 points to close at 47,035. The index successfully reclaimed the 47,000 mark, clearing key resistance levels including the quarterly, 5-day, and 10-day moving averages.
Institutional Momentum: Analysts highlight that year-end window dressing and a resurgence in AI-related interest are driving the market. With the New Taiwan Dollar trending higher, the index is well-positioned to challenge the monthly resistance level of 47,930.
Broad-Based Gains: The rally was widespread, led by the electronics sector, with semiconductors and memory stocks showing significant strength. Large-cap stocks including TSMC, MediaTek, and Nanya posted solid gains, while the OTC index outperformed the main board with a 4.06% rise.
Capital Flows: Institutional investors were net buyers, with a combined inflow of NT$32.44 billion from foreign investors, domestic investment trusts, and dealers. Despite some profit-taking by state-run banks, market experts remain optimistic about a continued push toward the 50,000-point milestone following the US midterm elections.
