Darfon Electronics reported a significant 941.3% year-on-year increase in Q3 net profit, despite facing headwinds from soft laptop demand and rising material costs.
What Happened
Q3 Financial Performance: Darfon Electronics reported a third-quarter net profit of NT$90 million, marking a substantial 941.3% year-on-year increase, with earnings per share reaching NT$0.31. Despite this sharp annual growth, the company's gross margin dipped to 15% due to cooling demand in the laptop sector and the green energy business.
Operational Headwinds: During the earnings call, management highlighted that revenue and margins were pressured by a combination of factors, including rising raw material costs and unfavorable foreign exchange fluctuations. The slowdown in shipments for its Grofa green energy unit also contributed to the softer quarterly performance.
Year-to-Date Results: For the first nine months of the year, Darfon achieved a consolidated revenue of NT$20.55 billion, representing an 8.8% increase compared to the same period last year. Net profit for the period totaled NT$230 million, a 77.8% growth, reflecting resilient performance despite recent market volatility.
Capital Management: In response to tightening liquidity in the Taiwan market driven by AI capital expenditures and public infrastructure projects, Darfon has proactively bolstered its cash position. By the end of Q3, cash and marketable securities rose to NT$8.347 billion, with the company prioritizing equipment upgrades over new factory investments.
