Epitaxial wafer manufacturer VPEC saw its stock price climb over 21% last week as improved InP substrate supplies and strong AI data center demand boosted performance.

What Happened

Strong Market Performance: Epitaxial wafer manufacturer VPEC (2455-TW) experienced a significant rally last week, with shares climbing 21.66% amid sustained foreign institutional buying. The stock successfully cleared all moving averages and surpassed the NT$500 threshold, accompanied by an eightfold surge in weekly trading volume.

Robust Revenue Growth: The company reported August revenue of NT$470 million, marking an 11.56% monthly increase and a 71.16% year-on-year jump, setting new records for the period for two consecutive months. Year-to-date revenue through August reached NT$2.817 billion, reflecting a solid 35.83% growth compared to the previous year.

Supply Chain Normalization: VPEC previously faced headwinds due to China's rare earth export controls, which disrupted the supply of Indium Phosphide (InP) substrates. However, the situation improved significantly after major suppliers received export approvals in late May, leading to a steady influx of materials starting in July.

AI-Driven Outlook: Driven by robust demand for optical electronics in AI data centers, the company currently maintains order visibility through the end of the year. Analysts note that future performance remains contingent on evolving US-China trade relations and potential shifts in China's export control policies.
