PlayNitride-KY reports that its large-format Micro LED modules have entered the shipping phase, with revenue contributions expected to materialize by late 2024.
What Happened
Operational Outlook: PlayNitride-KY Chairman Lee Yun-li stated that despite short-term headwinds in the automotive sector, shipments of large-format Micro LED modules and commercial display solutions have commenced. The company expects these shipments to drive financial performance starting from late 2024 through the first half of 2025 as manufacturing costs continue to decline.
Optical Communication Strategy: The company is aggressively expanding into the optical communication sector, leveraging the low power consumption and parallel transmission capabilities of Micro LED arrays. This technology aims to replace traditional copper wiring in short-distance data transmission, with commercial-scale adoption expected within the next two years following ongoing validation with international partners.
Product Development: PlayNitride continues to advance its wearable display technology, with smartwatch power efficiency already improved by 50% and projected to surpass OLED standards by 2027. Furthermore, the company anticipates that full-color monolithic Micro LED solutions will become a standard for AR glasses, with major global brands expected to launch products in the coming years.
Supply Chain and Compliance: Addressing shifts in Samsung Electronics' outsourcing strategy, the company maintains that its position as a core chip supplier remains secure. Additionally, PlayNitride has implemented strict production line segregation to ensure compliance with U.S. regulations regarding non-red supply chains for optical communication products.
