Strategic Tariff Adjustments: The Canadian government described these measures as a direct, dollar-for-dollar response to U.S. Section 338 levies. Notably, duties on U.S. steel, aluminum, and iron have been doubled to 50%, while furniture and clothing sectors face the highest tier of the new tariff schedule.
Political and Economic Friction: The breakdown of trade talks in late August has led to increasingly hostile rhetoric, including public calls from President Donald Trump to boycott Canadian manufacturer Bombardier.
